\"s\" The Trust currently represents Waitaha input to the re-diversion of the Kaituna. This project is in its planning stages. The priorities set are;

  • Restoration of wetland areas concerning Papakahikahawai
  • The acquisition of privately owned land necessary for the re-diversion by BOP Regional Council
  • Automated flood gates to control flow levels from the current course of the river out to the estuary
  • Cultural elements symbolic of the river and its’ history
  • Cultural monitoring
  • Earthworks
  • The re-establishment of a new Boat birth
  • White bait stands along the river
  • Ecological habitat
