Putea Mātauranga | Grants & Scholarships
Grants and scholarships are now open for the 2026–2027 financial year. Funding is available until allocated funds are fully expended within the current financial year, 1 July 2026 – 30 June 2027.
Please note: You must be logged in to your Iwi Registration account to complete and submit a grant or scholarship application. If you are not yet registered, please complete your Iwi Registration before applying.
Education
Grant
A contribution towards primary, intermediate, secondary and alternative school and/or education expenses.
Eligibility:
- Complete the online application
- Provide proof of enrolment and supporting costs
- Complete an accountability form
Drivers
License
Supports whānau to progress towards their Class 1 driver licence, including learner, restricted and full licence pathways.
Eligibility:
- Must be eligible for the licence being sought
- Provide proof of lessons or a booked licence test
- Complete an accountability form
Discretionary
Grant
Provides one-off support for educational kaupapa that may not meet the criteria of other grant categories, including holiday programmes.
Eligibility:
- Submit a detailed kaupapa plan and budget
- Provide supporting quotes, invoices or receipts
- Complete the online application and accountability form
Hakaraia Tertiary Education Grant
Supports students undertaking tertiary study, trade apprenticeships, certificates, diplomas, degrees and postgraduate qualifications.
Eligibility:
- Be enrolled in an eligible tertiary programme or apprenticeship
- Provide proof of enrolment and current-year expenses
- Complete an accountability form and attend Hakaraia Wānanga (Date TBC)
Waitaha
Cultural Grant
The Purpose of this grant is to sipport Waitaha centric kaupapa such as:
- Te Reo Wananga/Programmes
- Waiata/Haka Wananga
- Mātauranga/Tikanga Programmes
- Whaikōrero/Kai karanga Wānanga
Eligibility:
- Applicants must be a member of the Waitaha-A-Hei pae tapu OR The programme has endorsement from Waitaha pae tapu.
Te Houhou Health Scholarship
Supports students studying towards qualifications in the health sector, including certificates, diplomas, degrees and postgraduate study.
Eligibility:
- Be enrolled in an eligible health-sector programme
- Provide proof of enrolment and current-year expenses
- Complete an accountability form and attend Hakaraia Wānanga
Sports Grant
Supports whānau participation in sport and hauora through assistance with eligible sporting fees and equipment.
Eligibility:
- Meet the age and representative-level requirements
- Provide details and supporting costs for the sporting kaupapa
- Complete an individual application and accountability form
