Te Kapu O Waitaha is host to Te Arawa Takitai Moana quarterly hui Te Arawa Takitai Moana – Kaumaatua met 10th March 2016. Following are the updates. Kaituna Re-Diversion scheme

  • Earthworks monitoring training completed. No issues arising, however found the training to be extremely basic
  • Hearing for resource consent concerning the diversion will be held April 4th, 10.00am Classic Flyers. Waitaha will attend this hearing
    Whale Stranding/Fatalities
  • Hui resolved to hold a wananga to develop collective protocols and policies concerning whale stranding, cultural harvesting, rongoa, matauranga, and burial. This will inform Agencies responsible for regulating related legislation
    Rena update
  • Hui resolved that Maria Horne submit a section 274 on behalf of Te Arawa Takitai moana kaumaatua to the court of appeal opposing the recent approval of the Rena MV consent
