WAITAHA KOEKE
The Trust along with many other organisations recognize that our koeke are most vulnerable to the COVID-19 Virus. Making this more challenging is a lock down therefore a major disruption to being able to shop, collect prescriptions, fear of understanding symptons, disconnected to whanau, and in some cases whanau assistance. The Trust has set up an email tahurimai@waitahabackup.seoauckland.net.nz for whanau and koeke assistance by the Trust. This may include;- arranging the pick up and drop off of groceries, prescriptions
- assistance with online shopping
- referral and advocacy to the right help and support offered by Government agencies, and other organisations
- ensuring our KOEKE have the essentials for everday needs
- Koeke over 70 years, or those koeke long term health illnesses such as ;
WAITAHA WHANAU – KAI MANAAKI
The Trust understands that many whanau will be supporting other whanau members who are in isolation, and or koeke who rely on transportation, and mobility by whanau to help them get thorough this lockdown period. The Trust may be able to assist with;- grocery and prescription pick ups in the Te Puke area
- Petrol assistance to help VOLUNTEER GROUPS OR INDIVIDUALS who are using their own transport to manaaki Waitaha koeke with pick up and drop offs including vulnerable Waitaha whanau
KAI NGAKAU
The Trust has co-ordinated a series of activities via the Tahurimai Facebook Page to help minimize the stress of confinement in homes. These are run TUESDAY-WEDNESDAY-THURSDAY, commencing 31st March 2020. The programme is designed to include \\\”taha wairua, hinengaro, tinana, and whanau\\\”. The Trust acknowledges and thanks all those who have been involved giving up their time to help support Waitaha whanau at this time. We will look to running a poll in response to the programme, to consider running future wananga where a majority have indicated continuance for any of the programmes being aired. LOCAL UPDATES
The Trust has almost 3,000 registered beneficiaries. We will report local community updates as they come to hand. These can include the wider communities throughout Aotearoa in regions where high populations of Waitaha beneficiaries are located. Te Puke- MY Pharmacy is delivering perscriptions locally
- A COVID-19 Test station has been set up locally, however people should call 0800 358 5453 for a pre-assessment in the first instance if they are experiencing:-
- a cough
- a high temperature (at least 38°C)
- shortness of breath
